S1, S2, S3 Refresher or RPL (Mining Supervisors Course)

IN 4 Training offers RPL and refresher training for the mining supervisor course also known as S123.
The mining supervisors course is designed to provide candidates with the skills and knowledge required to: Apply processes to conduct inspections and identify, analyse, assess risk, recommend treatments, contribute to the implementation of treatments and to monitor risks.
This course meets the requirements for the position of a Supervisor in the Resources Industry as per s.56 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and s.51 of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 and are recognised by both Coal Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee and the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee.

Site safety representatives and supervisors who are looking to enhance their safety qualifications and awareness of your legislative obligations of the Queensland Government Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act and Regulation and Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulation as it applies to you, a supervisor.

The supervisors course focuses on:
Risk management

  • the appropriate identification of hazards and analysis of risk
  • assessing and identifying unacceptable risk
  • selection and implementation of control measures
  • use of risk management concepts to effectively supervise workers

Incident investigation focusing on

  • evidence gathering
  • detailed investigation and reporting
  • appropriate analysis of information to identify immediate causes (contributing factors) and underlying (real) causes
  • making appropriate recommendations to reduce risk of a recurrence

Communicate information focusing on skills related to

  • supervising a team
  • Effective communication methods
  • delivering a shift meeting or toolbox talk
  • negotiating in the workplace

As a coal mine worker appointed by the SSE, give instructions to other coal mine workers in accordance with the safety and health management system and has the ability to perform tasks assigned by the mine site senior executive at that mine.

RPL or Refresher pre requisite.
The candidate shall provide upon enrolment a certified certificate copy in their current legal name with the current units of competency

There is no pre requisites for the full course.
However it is recommended that you

  • Completed the Coal Surface Generic Induction (Standard 11)
  • Be aged 18 or above
  • Have successfully completed year 10 or equivalent level of study
  • Successful completion of In 4 Training Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Indicator
  • Have a good level of English reading and writing skills
  • Experience in the mining sector would be of an advantage

Refresher or RPL.
Candidates will be assessed through written questioning and providing evidence for example.

  • risk assessments
  • training records
  • observations in the workplace
  • third party reports
  • etc

Full Course
Class room: 1 x 9 hour day face-to-face training.
Supervised workplace testing and activities: 18 hours in a fortnight period.
Candidates will be assessed through questioning, projects, case scenarios, reports, skills assessment, observation in the workplace.
